Acmispon glaber

Horticultural Notes

2-3’ x 2-3’          Deerweed is a perennial subshrub with slender branches lined with small green pinnate leaves. The plants are deciduous in summer. In fact during the recent drought I had begun to think that many if not all had perished, but following good rain most did leaf out, a testament to how rugged our native plants are. Spring brings small bright yellow flowers that have a long keel.

Another common name is California Broom. There are reports that in the early years of settlement brooms were made from this plant.[1]
